Young Farmers

The Young Farmer’s Project is run every year at Oliver Elementary. With the sponsorship of Hester Creek
Winery, we have been able to support our students as they learn about what it takes to grow and sell their own food. Hester Creek has been a generous donor to Oliver Elementary since 2011 and we are very thankful for their continued support.
Mission: To allow students from Kindergarten-Grade 6 to have the opportunity to experience the process of
planting, maintaining, harvesting, and selling local food, grown in their own gardens.
Project Outline:
• Students fill out the attached application form and anticipated budget
• Students are awarded grant for their project
• Students will be provided opportunities to sell their produce in the fall.

Students can use the grant to cover costs such as:
• Pots/Containers
• Materials to build garden boxes
• Rental costs at the Oliver Community Garden
• Tilling a garden plot
• A small greenhouse
• Sees, soil, gardening equipment
Please note: although this is meant to be a student led project, we acknowledge younger students may require parental assistance.
